The Abdelhadi Tazi Foundation is transforming Villa Baghdad, the historic residence of the late historian and diplomat Abdelhadi Tazi, into a Cultural Diplomacy Center, Museum, Writers’ Retreat, and Cultural Hub in the heart of Rabat’s Souissi district. This project aim to position Villa Baghdad as a national reference point for cultural diplomacy, research, and heritage preservation—bridging Morocco’s past intellectual legacy with its future global role.
Designed in 1970 by René Deneux, the villa is a landmark of Moroccan modernist architecture and a living archive of Morocco’s intellectual and diplomatic heritage. The future Center will open its doors to the public as a multi-functional space combining:
A Cultural Diplomacy Museum showcasing Morocco’s governance traditions, royal correspondence, treaties, and historical archives
A 10,000-volume research library on Moroccan and Islamic heritage
A writers’ retreat with 7 guest rooms for scholars and creators
A cultural center hosting exhibitions, workshops, and dialogue programs
