Ibn Battuta Revisited – Book Launch at SIEL
ATF unveils new research restoring the credibility of Ibn Battuta’s travels. Join us at the Rabat International Book Fair to explore this landmark publication.
At the upcoming Rabat International Book Fair (SIEL, May 1–10), the Abdelhadi Tazi Foundation will present a new publication dedicated to the travels of Ibn Battuta, based on decades of scholarly work by Abdelhadi Tazi.
This landmark publication revisits historical interpretations of Ibn Battuta’s journeys, drawing on Tazi’s archival research that helped reestablish the authenticity of routes and accounts previously dismissed as fictional.
The work highlights:
Morocco’s role as a center of medieval intellectual and diplomatic exchange
Ibn Battuta’s encounters across Africa, Asia, and the Islamic world
The historical credibility of Al-Rihla through new documentary evidence
The continuity of Moroccan scholarly traditions in global history
By bringing this research to the public at SIEL, ATF reinforces its mission to make Moroccan historical scholarship accessible and globally relevant, while contributing to contemporary debates on history and intercultural understanding.
